UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE "CORE ZONE" NIZZA MONFERRATO: THE CAPITAL OF THE NIZZA DOCG TERRITORY
Nizza Monferratois a small, picturesque town, stretching between the Belbo stream and the Rio Nizza in the heart of Monferrato. The city is characterised by a typical hilly landscape, in an area with a mild climate particularly favourable to vine cultivation. In its centre, there are some historical buildings of particular interest, such as Palazzo Comunale (XIV-XV century) in P.zza Martiri d'Alessandria. The Book of the Statutes of the Nizza della Paglia Municipality (Libercatenae), which collects medieval statutes from the XIII to the XVIII centuries, can be found onsite. The Municipality is surmounted by the ancient bell tower of the Town Hall, known by the people of Nizza as "el Campanòn". Since 2004, the tower can be visited right up to the top, from which a unique view of the surrounding area can be enjoyed. In Piazza Martiri di Alessandria there is also Palazzo De Benedetti, a splendid 18th-century residence. Here you will also find the Ospedale Santo Spirito (Holy Spirit Hospital), housed in a very old building that has always hosted religious communities. Inside is the tiny Church of the Holy Spirit, with a carved wooden entrance, restored in 1877. Every third Sunday of the month, Piazza Garibaldi hosts the Antiques Market (one of the most important in Piedmont) with over 350 exhibitors. The square is also home to the Foro Boario, built at the beginning of the 20th century and named after Pio Corsi. A symbol of commerce and large livestock fairs, it currently hosts important events. Last but not least, Palazzo Crova is an example of a noble town residence from the 18th century, a beautiful building designed by the architect Robilant with a garden enclosed by high walls. The palace not only houses Davide Lajolo's Art '900 collection (100 works including paintings and sculptures) and the Palazzo del Gusto but it is also the headquarters of the Enoteca Regionale, the Slow Food Condotta delle Colline Nicesi, the Presidio del Cardo Gobbo di Nizza and theAssociazione Produttori del Nizza.

In addition to Art '900, the Associazione Davide Lajolo Onlus promotes other projects such as the "Vinchio è il mio nido" (Vinchio is my nest) Museum dedicated to the writer Davide Lajolo (Vinchio) and the Bricco di Monte del Mare - Davide Lajolo's literary itinerary “Il Mare Verde”. . Two other important thematic itineraries are "i Bricchi del Barbera" and "I boschi dei Saraceni".

To safeguard local traditions, there is the Accademia della cultura Nicese "Erca", a non-profit association set up with the aim of promoting the traditions, history, language, art and local customs of the area. Wine-growing traditions are highlighted not only by the aforementioned Palazzo del Gusto, but also by the Museo "Bersano" delle Contadinerie e Stampe Antiche Del Vino ('Bersano' Museum of Farming and Ancient Wine Prints)..

The progetto sug@R(T)_House is also worth mentioning, seeing as it has the aim to link everyday food with education, culture, information, customs and art, and to give packaging of products a cultural value.

In addition to the excellence of Nizza DOCG wine, the focus is on Cardo Gobbo di Nizza Monferrato and Fassone Piemontese IGP beef..

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
The vineyards of "Nizza" are located in a hilly area, altitude between 150 and 350 metres above sea level, characterised by wide valleys. The soils are generally deep enough to best accommodate the vine roots and provide them with the right amount of water and nutrients, although there are also different soil types, where the depth of the soil is not so marked, due to the outcropping substrate of "tuff", which forms the "backbone" of the hills in the area.

The 'Nizza' production area is characterised by four different types of soil, which are described below.

Soils with a sandy-frank or frank-sandy texture (sands), from very coarse marine deposits that are weakly consolidated or loose. This type of soil can be found in the municipalities of Vinchio, Cortiglione, Incisa Scapaccino, Mombercelli and Mombaruzzo.

Soils with a loamy or sandy loam texture, from fine or coarse, weakly consolidated marine deposits. This type of soil can be found in the municipalities of: Castelnuovo Calcea, Agliano Terme, Mombercelli, Nizza Monferrato, Castelnuovo Belbo and Mombaruzzo.

Soils with a loamy, loamy-clay or loamy-clay texture, from fine, weakly consolidated marine deposits. This type of soil can be found in the municipalities of: Agliano Terme, Moasca, San Marzano Oliveto, Castel Rocchero, Castel Boglione, Nizza Monferrato.

Soils with a frank-sandy or frank-loam texture from consolidated coarse marine deposits. This type of soil can be found in the municipalities of: Calamandrana, Castel Boglione and Rocchetta Palafea.
