Our company was founded in 1956 when Natale Avezza, known as Tale in, purchased the farm after many years as a tenant farmer on various farms in the Asti region. Natal was immediately reunited with his son Aldo to manage the two hectares of vineyards around the farm. The structure of the company has not changed much, except that in 1987 Paolo Avezza, the son of Aldo, took the direction.
The Avezza farm is located on the hills of Canelli and was transformed in 2001 when Paolo decided to start producing wine from his own grapes, which had previously been given to other wineries. In 2019, it was taken over by the Lyhus family. Thus, started the collaboration between the Avezza family, which still manages the vineyard and the winery, and Lisette with her parents Vidar and Helle.
The winery is spread over three municipalities: in Canelli there is the winemaking cellar and the vineyards of Alta Langa and Moscato Canelli; in Nizza Monferrato there are the vineyards of Nizza and Barbera dÂ’Asti; In Calamandrana, the headquarters of the winery, there is the Residenza San Vito, a charming agritourism and restaurant managed by Lisette and closely connected to the winemaking business. The winery has vineyards totalling 10 hectares and the varieties are grown in counter espalier with the Guyot method with green pruning and thinning out to improve the quality of the grapes.
The soils are the most suitable in terms of microclimate and composition: Barbera grows on clay-loam soils, in the municipality of Nizza Monferrato; the vines located in Canelli (Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Moscato) are grown in well-exposed Marly-calcareous soils. The yield per hectare ranges from 70 quintals for the Barbera destined to produce Nizza Docg, up to 110 quintals for the Alta Langa sparkling wine, as required by the production specifications. The vineyard also complies with the latest EU guidelines to reduce the use of plant protection products and fertilisers for a lower environmental impact.
